My Name is Emily and art is a huge part of my life.
I have been drawing for as long as I can remember. I always wanted paper with “no lines!” I would take four sheets of paper, tape them all together in one long line and draw ballerinas: her head on one sheet, her shoulders and torso on the next and her legs and feet on the last two. Or I would take sidewalk chalk and draw really long caterpillars on our driveway for my dad to see when he came home from work. Art was a way for me to express myself.
As I got older, art became more than a hobby, it became a passion! When I was in high school, I took every art class I possibly could. I even did an independent study with one of my high school art teachers; she was always a huge inspiration to me and always pushed me to step out of my comfort zone. After high school I went to college to study graphic design. Since graduating in 2005, I have been designing magazines. I am currently the art director at Michiana Business Publications Inc., a publishing company in Fort Wayne.
At my first magazine job I met the love of my life and constant inspiration, Raul. I am forever grateful to have such an encouraging and loving person in my life.
My mother always encouraged my artistic endeavors (and made sure I had paper with “no lines”) and I have to give her a special thanks. Though she still resides in my hometown near Lake Michigan, we remain very close. Without her, none of the bags I have created would be sewn straight! Thanks, Mom, and thanks to everyone else that made my dreams possible.
I may not be a little kid drawing ballerinas anymore, but I still use paper with “no lines.” That’s how I view my art; no lines, no rules
